THIS LAST TIME

This last time
the sun dries his lips
and bakes dry his earth,
he sees green rice rows
wander toward a white temple,
tin roofs shake their heat at the sun,
water buffalo wander
near a temple.
This last time sun fevers his head
black mynas cray a warning,
fire breaks from shadows
of a tree line.
This last time sun bursts his eyes
he sees darkly the fall of sparrows
against a shaken sky.
