DS559.83.W18 K53 1998 Poster Case
Encino, CA : S. Klein, c1998.
1 picture on 14 double sided sheets : col. ; 31 x 526 cm., folded to 31 x 44 cm. A photomontage of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. with photographs of mementos left at the wall and a "Chronology of the Vietnam Conflict" below. All names are legible. Klein's print replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (The Wall) in Washington, D.C. is 2 ft. tall and more than 17 ft. in length. Jane Irish took the original photomontage and digitally scanned it to PDF format. Then, using a laser printer, she printed it scaled down onto 8.5” x 11” paper and glued the panels into the format seen in this case. The reproduction lining the case is so accurate that it is possible to read each and every one of the 58,000 names on it. The significance of this is that it typical of the artist’s interest in incorporating print forms into other visual formats like painting, ceramics, and, in this case, a decorative motif that frames other examples of type within other visual forms.
