Description
Officers of many regiments were responsible for recruiting their own soldiers. In this drawing, one of the two heavily bearded men at the front of the wagon is thus probably meant to represent Langhorne Wister. Note the admonition on the side of the wagon that one should choose one’s unit and officers--and not wait for the draft to make those decisions for you.
