Description

"The third son, Langhorne, became the captain of Company B of the 150th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. This regiment was known as Bucktail Brigade, so-named to strive to copy the accomplishments of the 1st Pennsylvania Riflemen, another Civil War regiment. Wister later became the Colonel of the regiment when Colonel Stone was injured. Langhorne Wister was twice wounded in the Battle of Gettysburg but kept fighting until the battle’s end when he was forced to give up his command to recuperate. Because of Wister’s gallantry under fire, Major General Abner Doubleday recommended him for promotion to brevet brigadier general, a recommendation approved by the Senate and conferred by President Lincoln."--Jen Merritt
