"Rodman (the youngest Wister brother) enlisted as a drummer boy when the Civil War first began, and he was placed in Captain Biddle’s company, the Home Guards of Germantown. He was transferred to the 8^th regiment until he came down with typhoid fever in 1863 and was honorably discharged after his service (and sickness) at Gettysburg." --Kathryn Feld
